SHINING was formed 1999 when Jørgen Munkeby needed to create a band for a scheduled performance, and chose the three other musicians without ever hearing them perform previously. After a few rehearsals, they performed a concert in Jørgen’s home town of Tønsberg, Norway, and the musical relationship proved so successful that they immediately decided to form a band. SHINING has performed at the major jazz festivals across Europe. In November of 2002, they embarked on a two-week tour of China, also performing at the Shanghai International Arts Festival to great acclaim. They have performed at such varied and notable venues such as Pukkelpop, Bizarre, Lowlands, Roskilde Festival, Quart Festival, Drum Rhythm Festival, London Forum, London Jazz Café, Brancaleone in Rome, E-Werk in Cologne, as well as at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, Molde International Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival, Stockholm Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Fesitval and the Avignon Festival in France.
